Regina Helcher Yost is currently in her eleventh season as Second Flute of the Charleston Symphony Orchestra and fifteenth season as Assistant Principal Flute/Piccolo of the Colorado Music Festival in Boulder, Colorado. She also serves as the Adjunct Professor of Flute at Charleston Southern University and core flutist for Chamber Music Charleston. Mrs. Yost received her Bachelor of Music degree in Flute Performance from the Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music where she studied with Kyril Magg and Jack Wellbaum. She also pursued a Master of Music degree at Indiana University studying with James Pellerite. Mrs. Yost has been a member of many summer music festivals including Tanglewood, Pacific Music Festival (Sapporo, Japan), Britt Festival, Chautauqua, GRAZ (Graz, Austria) and the Sarasota Music Festival. In the summer of 2006, Regina served as Acting Flutist with the Atlanta Chamber Players on their 30th Anniversary European Tour, performing for enthusiastic audiences in France, Switzerland, and Rome, Italy. Previously, Regina was the Associate Principal Flute/Piccolo of the Honolulu Symphony (1987-95), Second Flute/Piccolo of the Knoxville Symphony (1995-97), and Acting Second Flute of the St. Louis Symphony (1999-2000). In 2000, she soloed with the St. Louis Symphony in Brandenburg #4 in Powell Symphony Hall which received a standing ovation and rave reviews. In that same year, Regina was also chosen to play in the Minnesota Orchestra on their NYC/European tour, playing in Carnegie Hall and the finest halls in Europe, including the Musikverein and the Philharmonie. As an avid supporter of new music for the piccolo, Regina Helcher is currently Chairman of the Piccolo Commissioning Consortium, an organization dedicated to the commissioning of new piccolo works. Mrs. Yost is currently releasing her first CD, a fun compilation of traditional Christmas flute melodies which is being played on many radio stations across the country including Minnesota Public Radio and Sirius Radio Channel 112 (the Martha Stewart Channel).
