Ryan Leveille

Principal Percussion

A native of Wallingford, CT, Ryan has been a member of the CSO since 1996, serving as Second Percussionist through 2001 and then as Principal through the present. He is a graduate of the Curtis Institute of Music and Temple University, having studied with Philadelphia Orchestra percussionists Michael Bookspan and Alan Abel. He has performed with orchestras along the entire East Coast from Massachusettes to Florida and more recently been utilized in the percussion sections of other southeastern orchestras, including the Alabama Symphony and the Atlanta Symphony.

 
Ryan takes an active interest in the Charleston community beyond his musical endeavors. For six years he has been a shelter aide at My Sister's House, a domestic violence shelter, where he has twice been named volunteer of the year. He also chairs the Global and Community Mission Groups and serves on the church council at Circular Congregational Church. For the last decade he has been a delegate to the Greater Charleston Central Labor Council and has been an elected trustee of that organization since 2008. Ryan is married to Rev. Anya Marsalek Leveille who is on the clergy staff at Morris Brown AME church and a Divinity student at Erskine Seminary in Due West, SC.
